Men, we need to talk about perimenopause.
If your daughter, sister, girlfriend, fiancé or wife suddenly seems angry, emotional, distant, exhausted or completely different from the woman you know — don’t automatically assume she’s just being difficult.
She could be in perimenopause.
And no, that doesn’t mean you have to put up with everything.
But it does mean you should understand what may be happening before you judge her.
Hormonal changes can affect sleep, mood, anxiety, energy, concentration, libido and emotional resilience.
Imagine waking up one morning and feeling like your body and emotions no longer behave the way they used to — and nobody has explained why.
That’s the reality for many women.
So, instead of saying:
“You’re crazy.”
Try:
“You don’t seem like yourself. Is something going on?”
Instead of walking away:
“Do you want me to listen or give you some space?”
Instead of taking everything personally:
“Could this be something bigger than the argument we’re having?”
And please — learn about perimenopause and menopause.
Because loving a woman isn’t just about loving her when everything is easy.
Sometimes love looks like education.
Sometimes it looks like patience.
Sometimes it looks like saying:
“I don’t completely understand what you’re going through, but I’m going to learn.”
That’s partnership.
